As the host city of the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football, Dalian welcomed a grand celebration of youth and friendship, marked by passionate rivalry on the field and cultural exchanges. Yesterday, players from participating universities visited locations such as the Donggang Business District, Dalian Forest Zoo, and the Dongguan Street Historical and Cultural Block, immersing themselves in the city’s captivating blend of natural scenery and cultural heritage.

In the early morning, teams departed collectively from the Dalian Football Youth Training Base and arrived at the popular check-in spot, Gangdong Fifth Street, in the Donggang Business District. Witnessing a large ship slowly pass between two skyscrapers, the players exclaimed in awe at the spectacular sight. “I’ve never seen anything like this before—it’s truly magnificent!” expressed Nelson, a player from Santander Technological Units from Colombia. He mentioned that this trip to Dalian has been an unprecedented experience and that he would be very pleased to consider pursuing postgraduate studies in the city if given the opportunity in the future. It is worth noting that Nelson is the top scorer in his team and currently the leading goal-scorer in the men’s division of the tournament, having scored multiple impressive goals during the match.

Upon entering Dalian Forest Zoo, the participating players were immediately captivated by the adorable giant pandas, eagerly pulling out their phones to take photos. Panda plush toys also became highly popular souvenirs, with many players queuing up outside the gift shops. “This is my first time seeing a panda in real life; I’ve only ever seen them in videos before,” said Arunee Lipichote from Thailand’s Thammasat University, who speaks fluent Chinese. Her Chinese is so fluent that many people mistakenly assume she is Chinese. “Dalian is an incredibly beautiful city. I’ve taken many photos and shared them on my social media. When I return home, I’ll definitely recommend that my friends come to Dalian for travel or study,”she added.

At the century-old Dongguan Street, the players toured the historical exhibition hall, attentively listening to the stories of the street’s historical transformations and cultural evolution. Callum, a coach from University of Wollongong, shared with reporters that a relative of his had previously studied in China. Although this was his first time visiting, the country was familiar to him. “Dalian has left a profound impression on me. I can’t wait to share my experiences here with my friends and family when I come back home. It has been an unforgettable experience!” Callum remarked.

By the shimmering waters of the Bohai Bay, youthful friendships transcended borders. As the players return to their homelands carrying precious memories of Dalian, this celebration blending sports and culture will endure as a lasting bond in international cultural exchange.
