On the morning of September 19, the visiting university football teams of Santander Technology Units from Colombia and Pontifical Catholic University of Chile arrived at Dalian University of Foreign Languages. This visit, a key part of their itinerary for the Dalian 2025 FISU University World Cup Football, aimed to use football as a medium and culture as a bridge to expand dialogue between Chinese and Latin American youth, deepen interaction and cooperation between Chinese and foreign universities, and lay a solid foundation for the future development of inter-university relations.
Accompanied by faculty and students from the Spanish department of the School of European Language and Culture Studies, the delegation visited Chengzhi Building, the University History Museum, and the International Chinese Education Building. They gained an in-depth understanding of the university’s six-decade-long journey of educational development and achievements in nurturing talent. At the Chinese Culture Exhibition Hall, they immersed themselves in the millennia-old charm of Chinese calligraphy and movable-type printing, appreciating the profound allure of outstanding traditional Chinese culture. Student volunteers presented the delegation with auspicious Chinese character cards, using the written language to convey heartfelt messages and express the warm friendship of Chinese youth. The advanced facilities and rich exhibition content sparked strong interest among the delegation members and earned their high praise.
On the plaza of the University Student Activity Center, faculty and students from our university together with the delegation enjoyed a cultural performance meticulously organized by the University Youth League Committee, featuring martial arts, guzheng and dance. Volunteers dressed in traditional Chinese attire such as Hanfu and cheongsam presented the international guests from afar with Chinese knots symbolizing unity and good fortune. Amid the joyful and harmonious atmosphere, both sides took group photos to capture this profound friendship transcending geographical boundaries.
Young people are the future builders of the world and the practitioners of dialogue among civilizations. This event effectively disseminated China’s fine traditional culture through immersive experiences and interactive exchanges. It also built a bridge of sincere dialogue for friendship between the two sides, deepened mutual cultural understanding, and fostered friendly exchanges between Chinese and Latin American youth. As globalization continues to advance, language, as a bridge for communication, plays an increasingly prominent role in international engagement. This reception activity not only served as a vivid cross-cultural practice but also refined the linguistic abilities and comprehensive competencies of our faculty and students. Looking ahead, the university will continue to uphold high-level educational openness to foster the cultivation of international talent, actively build platforms for mutual learning among youth, promote the inheritance and innovation of civilizations, deepen mechanisms for people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and other countries, and focus on nurturing interdisciplinary, international, and application-oriented talent with a sense of patriotism, a global perspective and professional excellence.
