As the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football kicked off smoothly, participating teams have taken the stage to compete for the championship. On September 18, FISU President Leonz Eder visited the Dalian Football Youth Training Base and Dongbei Road Primary School to exchange ideas and gain comprehensive insights into the city’s sports education and higher education development.

In the morning, Leonz Eder and his delegation first visited the Dalian Football Youth Training Base, where they watched the men’s group match between Paulista University from Brazil and Ramon Llull University from Spain. During the match,

President Leonz Eder was fully engaged and expressed admiration for players’ exceptional skills. The match, fiercely contested and of high quality, ended with a narrow 1-0 victory for Paulista University who secured a strong start in the tournament.

After the match, Leonz Eder visited a display street showcasing the achievements of local higher education, where he meticulously reviewed the innovative progress and development of higher education in Dalian.

In the afternoon, the delegation proceeded to Dongbei Road Primary School in Shahekou District. On the football field, the school’s six regular football teams, women’s football team, and goalkeeper team demonstrated their daily training routines. Following the demonstration, President Leonz Eder eagerly participated in the interactive session, showcasing his juggling skills alongside the young players.

The young players enthusiastically requested President Eder’s autograph on footballs, expressing their intention to preserve the signed memorabilia in the school’s honor room. As a token of appreciation, player representative presented him with a childlike painting depicting football scenes, conveying their passion for the sport and warm welcome to the distinguished guest.

During a tour of the school’s football exhibition hall, Leonz Eder was deeply impressed to learn that the primary school had nurtured and supplied numerous outstanding football talents to the national team. He praised the school’s rich football culture and enduring spirit. “It exceeded my expectations.” he said,

“Over the past nearly 100 years, this school has made remarkable contributions to children’s education and their development in sports.” Leonz Eder said.

Later that day, President Leonz Eder and his delegation visited the Donggang Business District, exploring locations such as Donggang Commercial Street and the World Music Culture Museum. Strolling through the vibrant district where modern fashion and sea breezes blend together, they experienced the open vitality and deep cultural heritage of this coastal city, Dalian. President Leonz Eder was full of praise for the unique charm of this modern international metropolis, noting, “Dalian is a dynamic, modern city with a strong atmosphere of technology, and a rich sports culture.”

During their stay in Dalian, President Leonz Eder and his delegation will continue their visits to several local universities, conducting a comprehensive review of the city’s higher education standards and sports talent development systems. This series of visits is expected to further deepen international cooperation between FISU and Dalian in the fields of education and sports, laying a solid foundation for hosting more world-class events in the future.
